I was born and raised in Saskatchewan and left when I was 25. I have now lived in BC for more than half my life, and it is home. I will always be a Roughrider fan and I will always miss the sense of community. But what I love here is the progressiveness. It is hard to understand why people don't get the urgency of recycling, or don't want to see change. That is why I couldn't go back to Saskatchewan , they don't welcome change or new ideas. But kudos to you for trying to do your bit with plastics, you will make a difference!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6702065106344798334.post-54780018105184939342011-07-23T12:29:28.761-07:002011-07-23T12:29:28.761-07:00Saskatchewan is the best!..but I agree with the re...Saskatchewan is the best!..but I agree with the recycling issues. I live in a community just under an hour away from a City that I have been taking my household plastics to so that they don't end up in the dump. I found out today they go to the dump there instead of my town. I wash, rinse, dry, save and store plastic everything only to discover it is all for naught. I was floored. What's the point of collecting the stuff if it isn't being recycled. Seems like a bit of a trick to me. Made me think I was doing the right thing. Egads. I live alone and had huge bags of the stuff everytime I went. I was thinking there must be someplace that takes this stuff and started looking. I could drop them off in Regina, 3 1/2 hours away but that's not likely to happen. I've done some research and I might just start picking up everyones plastics and taking on the journey south every now and then. I love this province though - blemishes and all. You can still take a drive in the country and not run into another soul (some of us like that - if you don't then move to Alberta - it's nice too). You can take big breaths of fresh clean air - no smog advisory where I live. I have good neighbours, a big garden, friends and family who care. Tell me now, what else is there that really matters. Sounds to me like you my friend will be unhappy no matter the time or place because it's all in perspective, not in the surroundings. I hope you find your happy place - then it just won't matter where you live. Enjoy today and all that follow!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6702065106344798334.post-637674395982086082011-07-16T00:21:52.186-07:002011-07-16T00:21:52.186-07:00I found an " I hate B.C." You could create a blog called " I hate BC" if you like and it won't offend native British columbians because well we don't need to defend ourselves, we have quite the crush on our province. But again, this is about recycling and the longer Saskatchewan waits to have all available recycling options available the more the environment suffers and I believe your peeps deserve the best.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6702065106344798334.post-24376283276283070112011-07-15T11:36:16.035-07:002011-07-15T11:36:16.035-07:00The point is that people in glass houses shouldn&#...The point is that people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. The city and the 'burbs came together bright and early the next day and cleaned up the mess by noon. Yes, all glass and other recyclables would have been disposed of properly by law. But in the end this discussion isn't about "who is better" , it is, I believe, about doing our best to save the planet. Pay pick up programs are popular.

Nice hair splitting about municipal boundaries on the south island. Most people living in Gordon Head will say they are from Victoria, not Saanich, so I am not sure it matters which city counsel likes to crap in the sea.

It is true there are somewhat more hillbillies in Saanich than Victoria proper. You can tell by the junk in the front yard of so many Saanich homes.

Victoria has more retired snobs. They bought places there not because it is nicer than towns in other temperate parts of Canada, but because it's more expensive and sounds more exclusive. Those snobby retirees do make up the bulk of the educated people there. They come from somewhere other than the island of course. Even in Vic proper, the locals are more into Big Bad John's hic bar than sushi.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6702065106344798334.post-37046359201698012532011-07-01T08:44:40.175-07:002011-07-01T08:44:40.175-07:00I'll say one thing, you are a marvellous agita...I'll say one thing, you are a marvellous agitator ... and I smell "NDP troll" all over this site :) On the plus side, it looks like they may win another term in Manitoba .... maybe you could move there, if they can't re-claim B.C. from the Liberals ......

Saskatchewan cities are perceived as having high taxes.
